“Beyond Hoop Dreams” at Lisa’s Hearth in Oakland
February 16, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Dear Guests of My Hearth,
I am honored to host Frederick Marx, the award-winning film director, producer and Rinzai Zen Priest at Lisa’s Hearth Thursday Feb 16 at 7pm. Frederick will lead us in an engaging conversation about how to be an agent for positive change. He will show segments from four of his critically acclaimed films: Hoop Dreams, Journey from Zanskar, Rites of Passage and Veterans Journey Home and use them as a springboard for a lively discussion about what makes the films impactful and what types of positive change can arise from watching the films. Frederick then moves from behind the camera posing the questions: How do we connect with others in a way that promotes better understanding, that facilitates deeper connection, that heals the divide, that lights the fire for positive change, that opens our hearts and strengthens and sustains our communities? How do we find our own authentic voice and gift it to the world around us?
Buy your tickets in advance to guarantee your seat for this extraordinary evening with Frederick Marx who was nominated for both an Academy Award and Emmy Award and is most known for Hoop Dreams named the Best Documentary of All Time by the Intl. Documentary Association. His last film Journey from Zanskar – featuring the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere – is in worldwide distribution.
Frederick and I are looking forward to seeing you for “Beyond Hoop Dreams” on February 16, 2017. Location details and a full biography are below.
