All the Young Dudes… Carry the (Good) News…

We’re going to the UK and Ireland!
We’ll be screening JOURNEY FROM ZANSKAR – which has never screened there! We’ll also be giving talks on youth rites of passage, doing workshops, and screening other films. If you’d like to bring us to your town and host us for a screening or a talk let us know soon. Or you can help fund the trip. But whatever you do act quickly, our May 26 – July 15 calendar is filling up fast!

Journey from Zanskar
will play in the September THIS Buddhist Film Festival in Singapore. Star Geshe Lobsang Yonten will be there. Let me know if you’d like to go and I’ll secure you a free ticket. In fact, since the festival doesn’t have funds to fly in filmmakers, you can help us fund the trip, or buy me a plane ticket and we’ll go together!

I’m becoming a Zen priest!
(Though I’m not crazy about the term “priest.” I prefer “Zen Dude.”) After 30 years of dharma practice and study I feel this is an important step to take for my own well-being – to up my practice – and to take a public stand as “a Bodhisattva of no rank.” I dearly love the dharma. Those teachings encapsulate everything my films stand for – celebrating all beings and life itself, standing for social justice through wisdom, compassion, non-violence, and skillful means, dedicated to reducing all forms of suffering. Journey from Zanskar is only the most obvious example. But the teachings stand equally behind Boys to Men?, The Unspoken, Rites of Passage, The Tatanka Alliance, and all my other films.

Join our Board!
Our Treasurer just stepped down. (Though you wouldn’t have to assume that role.) This is a great opportunity for documentary film lovers, social change agents, people that really want to make a difference in the world of art and society. See what it takes to join our Board.

But wait! There’s more…

Rites of Passage
Will show at the Rafael theater in San Rafael on March 9 as part of a special “Men’s Group” evening along with a sneak preview of Joseph Culp’s brand new feature comedy “Welcome to the Men’s Group.” Joseph and I will be there for a panel discussion along with world class men’s experts. Buy tickets here.

Youth Passageways
The organization we co-founded is hosting an April gathering of 100 youth ROP mentors and practitioners. Though this is an invitation-only event if you feel like you are a part of our extended family and should be invited please contact me ASAP.  Though it’s not my final decision to make, I’ll do my best to see that no one who belongs is  left out!
